Credit / Debit Card Donations

When Receiving Donations Online

Online giving is the easiest and fastest way for you to raise money, so we recommend you take advantage of it whenever possible. 

Donors are able to make credit or debit card donations on your General Support page. You can access this page by:  

• Signing onto fundraising.fracturedatlas.org.
• Choosing "General Support."
• Clicking "Status."   

This is where donors will see your ask and make an online donation. You can share the link to this page by following the above steps. 

Things to Keep in Mind:

• Online Donation Logistics  
  We accept online gifts up to $20,000 per transaction through our website. Anything greater than that should be processed through multiple transactions or via check. We do not require the Major Gift letter for any online donations. Note: If your donor is making multiple donations online, please advise them to wait a few minutes between each donation so that their donations are not caught by our fraud detection.   
   
• One-time vs. Monthly Pledge Donations
  When making a donation by credit card on your General Support page, your donor will have the option to give "One-Time" or "Monthly." If the donor selects "Monthly," a recurring monthly pledge from this donor will be set up for your project. The credit card provided will be charged automatically each month on the same day of the month. You will be notified by email when a pledge is processed, and your donor will also receive an email confirmation each month when the pledge is processed. To edit or end a monthly pledge, the donor should log into their donor account on Fundraising by Fractured Atlas. Please see Cancel or Update your Monthly Donation for more information. Please note that only fully deductible donations can be processed through a monthly pledge. 
   
• Donor Credit Card Information
  You may NOT collect credit card information from donors and submit online donations on their behalf. Collecting and storing credit card information in this manner is not secure and poses a liability for Fractured Atlas. Donors must either make the gift themselves or they can call our office to complete the contribution over the phone. Please don’t call us on their behalf. See Prohibited Activities for more details. 
  
  
• Online Partially-Deductible Donations
  Partially-deductible online donations through your General Support page are only acceptable in cases where you've set up giving levels. Your online donation page is not an online credit card processing service for tickets, workshop fees, or payment for services rendered. If you'd like to offer donors something in exchange for an online contribution, you must create giving levels on the Fundraising by Fractured Atlas website. 
  
  
• Donors Disputing a Charge
  Occasionally, a donor disputes a credit card charge from Fractured Atlas due to not recognizing it. If the sponsored project has funds available to cover the disputed donation, we will refund the original transaction and alert the project of the refund. If the project does not have enough funds to cover the disputed donation, we will contact the donor directly and ask him/her to withdraw the dispute. If we do not hear back from the donor or the donor does not withdraw the dispute, we will refund the original transaction and reduce the available funds.
  
  If a donation is disputed by a donor and the funds have already been released to the project, Fractured Atlas reserves the right to request that the project return the funds to Fractured Atlas. 
  
  To prevent disputes, please make sure to email donors after they give to thank them and remind them that a charge from Fractured Atlas is going to show up on their credit card. 
  
  
• Donation Errors
  Sometimes donors can make mistakes and will either donate to the incorrect project or will accidentally make a duplicate donation. If you see a transaction in your donation history that might be a mistaken donation, it is your responsibility to alert us to this before you request that the donated funds be released. If you disburse funds that were not intended for your fiscally-sponsored project, we will require that you return these funds to us in order to resolve the situation.
  
  
• Additional Fees
  Fractured Atlas may pass along fees for credit card transactions that are disputed by the donor. Please make sure to alert donors that their credit card statement will list Fractured Atlas for any donation transactions. If a donor disputes a credit card charge, we must pass along the fee associated with the dispute to you. You will be charged $25 for the initial dispute and an additional $25 if Fractured Atlas fails to resolve the dispute and the charge is reversed. If you do not have sufficient funds to cover this fee in your sponsored fund, you will be asked to pay the fee via credit card.
