Fractured Atlas will generate a tax receipt for every eligible contribution that is processed by Fractured Atlas. Projects should plan to send a thank you letter for every contribution they receive, regardless of the amount or deductibility to the donor. We have different procedures regarding how receipts are sent to donors depending on the amount.
Donations Under $1,000
For donations under $1,000 made by check, Fractured Atlas will email the receipt to the project and the project must send this receipt to the donor within two (2) weeks of receiving it, with a personalized thank you letter. It is very important that the project enclose the tax receipt so that the donor has legal documentation of the contribution. Projects may keep a copy for their records, but the donor should get a copy within two weeks of receipt.
For donations under $1,000 made by credit card, Fractured Atlas will email the receipt to the donor and to the project to alert them of the donation. The project does not need to send a receipt to a donor who contributed by credit card, but we strongly suggest the project send their personal thanks and confirm that the donor received the receipt.
Donations of $1,000 and Over
For donations of $1,000 or more, Fractured Atlas will send a receipt directly to the donor with a thank you letter from Fractured Atlas. We will notify the project by email if the donation was received and processed from an online gift. The project should plan to send a personal thank you letter as well.
Projects can also access tax receipts for their donors by logging into their membership, going to your Fiscal Sponsorship Dashboard > Donations > Donation History and going to the donation record. There will be a symbol for a PDF next to the donation that allows the project to download each individual letter to forward to their donor.
Donations of Property
For donations of property, Fractured Atlas will email the receipt to the project once the signed noncash donation letter is received along with all necessary documentation. The project must send this receipt to the donor within two (2) weeks of receiving it, with a personalized thank you letter. Tax receipts issued for donations of property will list the description of the donated item(s). The estimated value will not be listed on the tax receipt. It is the donor's responsibility to determine the value of donated property for their tax purposes.
