Seeking Grant Funding

Grants and Fiscal Sponsorship

As a fiscally sponsored project, you have the benefit of applying to foundations and government entities for funding that you may not otherwise be eligible for as an individual. Fractured Atlas has a set of requirements and procedures you must follow when seeking grant funding. See Fractured Atlas Grant Eligibility Requirement for specific details.       

It is important to do thorough research on the desired funder, their giving habits, guidelines, and application procedures to determine your projects eligibility for the specific opportunity.    

In some circumstances sponsored projects may not be eligible for grant funding. Below are some of the reasons why a project would not be allowed to apply for a grant opportunity with Fractured Atlas as their fiscal sponsor:  

• A particular funder does not accept fiscally sponsored applications (i.e. the National Endowment for the Arts).
• Fractured Atlas may be applying to a particular funder for our own programming, although it is rare that our applications conflict with our projects' since we operate very different programs.
• A funder may only accept one application per organization and your application would prevent other projects from applying. In the interest of fairness to all projects, we usually don't allow our projects to apply to sources that restrict the number of applications. 
• The funder only accepts local fiscal sponsors outside of New York State. In this case, you may seek an additional local sponsor. Fractured Atlas is non-exclusive, so you may have more than one sponsor while sponsored by us. Some fiscal sponsors are exclusive, so be sure to check the local sponsor's regulations on this before moving forward.   
• A project's activities is out of scope or does not align with a foundation's funding priorities, and it would be inappropriate for Fractured Atlas to allow that application to be submitted
• A project has not met the Fractured Atlas grant eligibility requirement. 
• A project does not meet the required guidelines that a funder publishes.

In all cases, we strive to be as helpful and as accommodating as possible regarding grant applications.
