Soliciting Donations
Projects often solicit noncash donations for their events or productions from local businesses, particularly wineries, breweries, groceries, and venues. Donations of tangible goods can be considered tax-deductible, but donations of services/space cannot. Projects are welcome to solicit businesses for donations of any kind, but it's important to point out to them what can and cannot be processed by Fractured Atlas.
Be sure to have all solicitation materials approved by Fractured Atlas staff before seeking donations.
Most local businesses ask for 6-8 weeks to process requests of noncash donations; be sure to factor this timeline into your event planning.
Noncash Donations for Auctions
Projects can receive noncash donations for their auction items, using the same guidelines as above.
For gift cards, the donor business must regularly sell gift cards. The card must be for a cash value and cannot represent a free service. For example, Fractured Atlas can accept a $50 gift card to Atlas Day Spa, assuming this company ordinarily sells gift cards. Fractured Atlas cannot, however, accept a voucher for 1 Swedish massage from Atlas Day Spa, as this does not have a cash value. Donations of stay or vacation packages are also not accepted.
See Prohibited Activities more information on restrictions on non cash donations
