What is SpaceFinder?
SpaceFinder is a matchmaking tool for renters looking for creative space, and spaces looking to promote their rentals. Powered by nonprofit Fractured Atlas, SpaceFinder is free to list or search for space.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who do I contact about renting a space?
Fractured Atlas does not own and manage rental spaces, we provide regional online marketplaces for other spaces to be discovered and rented. So... it is best to contact a venue directly. Each space listing specifies a venues’ preferred method of contact so you know how to get the most speedy response.
Is there a fee to book a space through SpaceFinder?
Nope! There is no fee to book online.
Do I have to create a username and password?
Nope. If you are interested in the features that come with creating an account (saved searches, etc.) we do encourage renters to create a username and password, however, it is not required for online booking.
Will I start getting SPAM if I book online?
Nope. We occasionally send relevant email updates when we have great feature releases worth letting you know about, but we don't turn on automated notifications based on online booking or try to endlessly "upsell" you.
How does the information about rentals stay up to date?
Fractured Atlas approves all listings before they get published. We follow up with a venue when a website link is dead, or a renter message bounces. Every six months venues are sent an email reminder to review their listing and update as needed. Calendars that show a space’s availability are automatically refreshed every day. If you see a listing that is inaccurate, please let us know and we will reach out to the venue.
Can you help me find affordable space?
We know it’s hard to find affordable space, that’s why we built SpaceFinder! In addition to filtering spaces by rental rates within your budget, understanding your options to qualify for non-profit or subsidized rates is a good place to start.

How do I share a shortlist of spaces?
Once you’ve run your search, look above the map of search results and select the option “Save this search”. Your search will be saved to your dashboard. You can right click to copy the link and share it with your collaborators, great time saver.
How do I find a specific type of space or amenity if there isn’t a search filter for what I need?
Keyword search is a catchall tool for discovering new spaces based on super specific needs. Keyword search is helpful for when looking for a specific type of space like “church,” “outdoor,” or “gallery,” or when looking for a specific type of amenity like “3D-printer,”, “piano,” or “bar”. You can even get creative and search for keywords that connect you to spaces with a certain vibe, like “artist-friendly” or “corporate”.
I see there are lots of options to filter space, how can I sort my search results?
Search results can be sorted (ascending or descending) by name, size, seating capacity, and distance from a specific location. All of these options are found on the footer of the search results map.
The venue I want requires ‘proof of liability insurance’, what is that and how do I get it?
General liability insurance covers you for damage to other people and other people’s stuff. If you kick a hole in the wall, or kick an audience member through a wall (accidentally, of course), this insurance will cover the cost. Many venues require general liability insurance to ensure renter claims won’t get charged to their own venue insurance policy. You’ll need to provide a Certificate of Insurance, also known as COI, listing the venue specifically as ‘additional insured.’
