There are a couple different ways that you can ensure a fan ends up on your MailChimp list from Artful.ly. Before you choose a method, it's important to understand the difference between subscribing someone and inviting them to join your mailing list.
Subscribing a Fan to Your Mailing List
If a fan has given you the okay to add their email to your mailing list, you can subscribe them immediately from Artful.ly. Anti-spam laws require subscribers to opt-into or request to join your mailing list, so make sure that this process is clear to your patrons. To learn more about MailChimp's guidelines and review their definition of permission, read their article here.
Subscribing can be done either in bulk from a list segment, or by viewing an individual record in your database. This article provides detailed instructions on the various methods: Adding People to MailChimp Lists or Groups Note: This method does not send an email confirmation to the individual, since they've already given you permission. If they haven't yet given you permission, see below for details on sending an invitation.
Inviting a Fan to Your Mailing List
Have new people interested in your work, and want to tell them how they can keep up-to-date with your organization? Send them an invitation to join your mailing list. MailChimp recommends a double opt-in process to avoid any compliance issues. Just like subscribing your fans, sending them an invitation to subscribe to your mailing list can be done either in bulk from a list segment, or by viewing individual records in your Artful.ly database.
Note: This will send each person an email asking whether or not they'd like to join your mailing list. They will not be subscribed until the invitation has been accepted.
