Have a donor interested in donating to your fiscal sponsorship through Benevity (a.k.a. American Online Giving Foundation) because of the employer match? Fantastic! We can definitely accept this type of matching gift. You may be wondering:
- Do we need to sign up with Benevity?
- How do they list that they want their donation to also go to my project?
- How long will it take for the donation to process?
- It's been more than three months and I still haven't received the donation, what now?
We’ve got you covered. We have successfully received and processed countless Benevity donations from employers nationwide.
Do we need to sign up with Benevity?
Nope, Fractured Atlas already has a profile set up with Benevity! However, you must email us at firstname.lastname@example.org stating you would like your fiscal sponsorship added to our Benevity profile.
How do they list that they want their donation to also go to my project?
When donating through Benevity, your donor will need to list the nonprofit as Fractured Atlas, since we are processing the contribution. In the special purpose/designation section, they will need to include your fiscal sponsorship’s name as it appears in our system. If your project name is not included as it appears in our system or is not listed at all, this could result in delays in the funds reaching your fund balance (which none of us want -- so make sure to always give them a friendly reminder).
How long will it take for the donation to process?
We typically receive all Benevity donations for the month in one lump sum at the end of the following month. For instance, all donations made to Benevity in January will be sent to Fractured Atlas as one lump sum at the end of February. This means it can take up to 2-3 months before we receive and can process contributions coming from Benevity.
It's been more than three months and I still haven't received the donation, what now?
First, make sure to confirm the date of the contribution with your donor. Sometimes companies hold the transfer of the initial donation to send the matching gift along with it. This ensures your project receives the entire lump sum.
Next, ask your donor if they included your project name in the special purpose/designation section! Although you may have reminded them to do it, we're human, they may have accidentally left it off.
Lastly, if you have done all of this, feel free to reach out to us so we can do some detective work! Please write to email@example.com including the following information:
- The full name of your donor
- The company they are affiliated with
- How much the donation is for
- When the donation was made
- Any additional information you may have (i.e. have they contributed to your project through Benevity before?)
This information will help us narrow down the search so we can get these funds correctly allocated to your fiscal sponsorship.
