Fractured Atlas does not allow projects to change the end date of their campaigns.* We do have tips, however, if you feel that your campaign is falling short of the goal or if you have surpassed your goal.
The main reasons that we do not allow end dates to be changed have to do with fundraising strategy. One of the core aspects of a crowdfunding campaign is that it is time-limited. Donors are often motivated by the deadline! They want to see the project succeed, and as the end approaches, they will feel more and more inspired to support you.
The end of a campaign often corresponds with an increase in donations as people are inspired to give during the last few days, especially if the goal is within reach. If you push the deadline back, you delay the culmination of the campaign.
Additionally, if you postpone the deadline too often, the deadline may no longer feel real for donors, and you might lose some of its impact. If they think the date is arbitrary, they will put off making their donation. It could also affect the way they think about future campaigns.
Potential donors will often need to have contact with the campaign multiple times before they decide to give. For the end of the campaign to drive donations, it needs to be consistent.
* Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis for emergencies and the cancelation of activities due to unforeseen events such as COVID-19. Please reach out to support@fracturedatlas.org if you believe your campaign should end or be extended due to extenuating circumstances.
