Fractured Atlas fiscal sponsorships can be closed by ending your membership or by formally "expiring" the project after submitting a final Annual Report. Leftover funds may be claimed for eligible expenses within 90 days of closure. To reactivate an inactive sponsorship, upgrade to a paid membership and confirm your project details.

🔚 How to End Your Fiscal Sponsorship
Your sponsorship may exist in perpetuity as long as your membership remains active and your project is in good standing. When the time comes for you to end the sponsorship, there are two ways to close out your sponsored fund.
Option 1: Closing Your Fiscal Sponsorship & Ending Membership
If you end your membership with Fractured Atlas or if your membership is changed to the free Community level, your fiscal sponsorship will also be automatically ended, since dues-paying membership is a requirement of sponsorship. If you end your membership before you have submitted your Annual Report, you are still required to submit an Annual Report. If you have sponsored funds left when your project closes, a staff member will contact you about next steps.
Option 2: Expiring Your Fiscal Sponsorship & Maintaining Membership
If you have completed your project and want to maintain your membership with Fractured Atlas, please contact support@fracturedatlas.org. We have the ability to “expire” your project in our system once you have submitted your final Annual Report. Marking a project “expired” in our database allows you the ability to apply for a new project in the future.
💲What Happens to Leftover Funds
If there are leftover funds when a fiscal sponsorship closes, the project will be able to request those funds up to 90 days after the end date. These funds can be released for eligible, project-related expenses. If the funds are not claimed within 90 days of the project's end, they will be redirected to support the overhead of the fiscal sponsorship program. We will send you several emails asking you to claim the funds during the 90-day window.
🔄 How to Reactivate Your Fiscal Sponsorship
In order to reactivate your fiscal sponsorship, you must have an active dues paying membership at the Professional or Organization level of membership.
After you've upgraded your membership, log into www.fracturedatlas.org, navigate to your fiscal sponsorship dashboard and click the "Reactivate Your Project," button. From there, you will be asked to confirm whether the following information is the same or has changed:
- Your project's activities
- Your project's legal entity
- Your project's mailing address
If everything has remained the same since you were last approved for fiscal sponsorship, your fiscal sponsorship will automatically reactivate. If something has changed, our staff will be alerted and we will review the changes and follow up with any questions that may need answering before we can reactivate your project's fiscal sponsorship.
Please note that your fiscal sponsorship will not automatically be reactivated once you've re-upgraded your membership.
