Fractured Atlas cannot accept or process tax receipts for certain contributions, such as cash, cryptocurrency, money orders, pro bono services, and free rent. These donations lack a verifiable paper trail or are non-deductible by law. Sponsored projects must manage them independently outside of Fractured Atlas.
❌ Unacceptable Donations
We cannot accept contributions of cash (bills and coins), cryptocurrency, or money orders for your sponsored project.
We are unable to accept and process donations of cash or money orders because they do not provide a paper trail back to an individual. Without a paper trail, there is no way to verify that the person receiving the tax receipt is the donor.
We must be very strict about this since we can get in big trouble with the IRS if we issue receipts to donors who didn't actually contribute to us. You can accept cash donations directly and manage them separate from your fiscal sponsorship.
Additionally, we cannot issue tax receipts for any donations paid to you or any other entity. All donations for the charitable purposes of your sponsored project must be paid directly to Fractured Atlas.
🤝 In-Kind Donations
Donations of intangible services such as pro bono accounting/legal help or free rent of any kind are considered in-kind donations by Fractured Atlas. These donations are very valuable but are not tax-deductible under the law. Therefore, we cannot issue a receipt for donations of pro-bono services or free space. There are also some additional types of noncash donations we cannot accept.
